She graduated from Columbus North High School in Indiana, she graduated cum laude from Hanover College, and she achieved an MFA in writing from Spalding University. She recently retired from 21 years of public school teaching, and she is a former Kentucky Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Currently she is an adjunct composition professor at Georgetown College. She is active in “Kentuckians For the Commonwealth”, “Mothers Demand Action”, “Georgetown Democratic Women’s Club”, and the “Georgetown Fairness Committee” advocating for passage of a Fairness Ordinance for our LGBTQIA+ citizens. She has been married for 42 years to pediatrician Horace P. Hambrick, and she has 5 far-flung children and 7 grandchildren causing her to travel frequently to Africa, New York City, Boston, and Kansas City to visit family.
Willow enjoys social/political activism, biking, bridge, tennis, writing poetry and reading theology. She intends to publish her poetry chapbook, “Upholding the Ache”. Her most astonishing moments include standing next to 20 giant silverback gorillas in the wilds of Rwanda, sailing in a dhow boat off the shores of Stone Town, Zanzibar, and attending the historic Women’s March in Washington D.C. in January 2018. Willow’s two favorite words are: “And Yet”.
