Read moreVenus Evans is a tribal citizen of the Mi’kmaq Nation of the state of Maine and the Atlantic Provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada. She is a member of the Cumberland Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) where she previously served as the alternate to the steering committee and a current member of the People of Color Caucus (POCC). Venus currently serves as “Commissioner at Large,” for the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission (KNAHC), a position appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nationally, she has served as secretary for the Governor’s Interstate Indian Council (GIIC). Venus is a proud alumni of Somerset Community College (SCC) class of 2017, graduating with an Associate in both Arts and Science. While at SCC, she served as President of the Student Government Association, Student Representative to the Kentucky Community Technical College Systems (KCTCS) Board of Regents, Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa’s Honors In Action Project, President of the Multicultural/Diversity Club, and as a Peer Mentor to the student body. She is a proud mother & grandmother, as well as Nsugwi (in-sue-gwee) AUNTY. As an Indigenous Influencer, Venus strives tirelessly to bring awareness of Tribal Citizens from various Tribal Nations who currently call Kentucky home, with a focus on building a community where Indigenous people are seen and heard.
