Read moreLeila (she/her) was born in Tennessee, raised in Maine, lived briefly in the Middle East, and found her way to Kentucky via the Midwest. Leila is a white bisexual woman and a survivor who manages mental illness on a daily basis. She comes to Emerge with a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis. There, she studied Violence & Injury Prevention and Sexual Health & Education while also serving as the campus Sexual Health Promotion Coordinator. Leila also obtained a Master of Arts in Peace and Social Transformation from the Earlham School of Religion, where she stoked her passion for interfaith dialogue and conflict transformation. Leila works with Kentuckians For The Commonwealth as the statewide Democracy Organizer, serving alongside members to mobilize thousands of Kentuckians to vote and lobby for voting rights restoration. She is a new Board Member with Kentucky Health Justice Network and looks forward to ensuring access to abortion, gender-affirming care, and contraception in Kentucky. She has previously worked in the nonprofit sector in social service agencies, providing resources and empathy to people living with HIV, women experiencing homelessness, survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence, and teenagers from around the world.
