Dearing, MSW, a Louisville native and graduate of Transylvania University, returned to her hometown in 2013 after living a over a decade in California, where she earned a graduate degree in social work administration before serving as the Executive Director of the California Coalition for Youth, an advocacy and direct-service membership organization for youth-serving nonprofits throughout the Golden State. Upon returning to Kentucky, she served as a policy advisor in Governor Steve Beshear’s administration and launched her own consulting firm. Currently, she works for Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman (who is also the Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet) as her Director of Legislative and Governmental Affairs. Additionally, she is also the Campaign Manager for US Representative John Yarmuth (KY-03), Kentucky’s only Democratic member of Congress. Outside of work, Heather serves as a member of several local nonprofits’ boards of directors including Louisville Girls Leadership, New Directions, and the Emerging Workforce Initiative, and gives her time to other causes for which she is passionate, like supporting women running for elected office. She lives in South Louisville with her husband, Jared, and their rescue dog and cat, in a 100+year-old fixer upper.
