Read moreNima Kulkarni moved to the United States when she was six. Her parents, Suhas and Surekha, left their life in India to seek improved opportunities for Nima and her brother Nikhil. Her family knew that working hard was important to their new life as Americans and they owned and operated the 8 to 8 grocery store in Germantown where Nima and Nikhil worked delivering groceries. Nima was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System and graduated from Atherton High School. She received both her B.A. in English and her M.B.A. from the University of Louisville. She then received her J.D. from David A Clarke School of Law, University of D.C.
Nima is the owner of Indus Law Firm, which specializes in immigration, employment, and business law. She is a member of the Georgia, Kentucky, and Louisville Bar Associations. She was named to the Business First 40 Under 40 in 2013.
Nima is extremely involved in the Louisville community and serves on the board of Community Foundation of Louisville, Louisville Public Media, the Indian Professional Council of Kentucky, and the Beaded Treasures Project, which empowers refugee and underprivileged women in Louisville. She is also a member of Greater Louisville Outstanding Women (GLOW), Rotary Club of Louisville, and serves as County Ambassador for the Greater Louisville International Professionals (GLIP). She volunteers for New Americans Initiative, dedicated to educating, engaging, and building awareness of immigration and immigration-related issues in our community.
Nima lives in the St. Joseph’s neighborhood of District 40 with her partner Raegan Maddox. She is the first Indian-American woman to serve in Kentucky Congress.
