Sara Butryn lives in Louisville, Kentucky and teaches English at Doss High School. She holds three masters’ degrees in Second Language Studies, Education, and Instructional Leadership. A teacher leader in her school building, she works to promote equity in school culture and pedagogy and serves as lead JCTA PR. Prior to moving to Louisville, she spent many years teaching English as a Second Language in several countries –including Myanmar, Vietnam, and South Korea–, in the United States at the university level, and in immersion programs. She’s an alum of the prestigious English Language Fellow Program, a collaboration between the Department of State and Georgetown University. Sara has served on both the JCTA and KEA boards and currently sits on five JCTA committees. Sara also sits on The Book Works board and the organization’s programming committee. She organizes with LSURJ and leads work related to public school issues. She also organizes informally with teachers in her district and is a GLCLC delegate. Last year she participated in Leadership Louisville’s Ignite Program. Sara lives in Germantown with her husband Jason, son Felix, stepdaughter Violet, 3 cats, and their dog Honey. She has a passion for languages, politics, and the working class.
