Read moreBorn and raised in the south-central portion of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Shana grew up with a rich tradition of storytelling instilled by her grandparents. Amidst the stories of their joy and love, hardship was always in the backdrop. Hardship that at times was not surpassed. Yet in moments when victory was tasted, the moral was palpable. The sweet lingering aftertaste of how victories against oppressive forces could be achieved. How race, socioeconomics, nor gender were definitive nor limiting. Stories of the era of Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement left an indelible mark on her psyche. Her studies at Eastern Kentucky University in the fields of Psychology and Mental Health Counseling as well as Public Administration have fueled her drive to work in positions that afforded her opportunities to embrace diversity, in the many shapes and forms present. Shana’s intent in the pursuit of public office is to continue to utilize her platform to address injustice and inequality in our society-focusing on creating a culture of health.
