Her lifelong commitment to social and political justice led her to labor organizing public employees in West Virginia with District 1199 WV/KY/OH and later, civil and employment rights work in the legal arenas. A dynamic advocate for underserved and vulnerable people, she came to Louisville with a wealth of experience in non-profit management and leadership, health care policy and project management in the health, mental health and social services arenas.
As the Refugee Health Promotion and Education Coordinator with the KY Office for Refugees/Catholic Charities – Louisville, Katina provides technical support to health care providers, resettlement agencies and refugee communities to improve the health and wellbeing of newly-arriving and resettling refugees across the state. A trained and experienced educator, Katina’s involvement in refugee resettlement began with a trip to Lesvos, Greece in 2015 where she volunteered with Mercy World Wide and Doctors of the World at the Moria Refugee Camp. Katina is the proud other of Moriah, an organic farmer in Vermont.
Since the age of 13 when she joined the Young Democrats in Huntington, WV, she has been a Democratic activist, political campaign manager for two statewide races in WV and was a delegate and assistant delegate to two Democratic National Conventions.
