Read moreCaratha Z. Buckner is a Social Service Worker with the Department for Community Based Services in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. In this role, Caratha recruits, trains and licenses prospective foster/adoptive parents. A big believer in child welfare and having a genuine interest in the plight of people, Caratha, supports and encourage multifaceted components in human service.
Caratha is also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Kentucky DUI Assessor and Instructor. She holds dual Bachelor Degrees: a Bachelor of Social Work from Murray State University and a Bachelor of Christian Education from the Hopkinsville College of the Bible.
Caratha is no stranger to social work, having spent 12 years as a Kentucky Foster/Adoptive parent, and over a decade as a Substance Abuse Counselor. She continues to counsel and educate at-risk populations and encourage them in their endeavors to obtain self sufficiency by providing a variety of resources.
Before employment with the Department of Community Based Services, Caratha worked for a diverse range of organizations, including the Christian County Public School System, FHC Cumberland Hall, Jefferson County Drug Court and the Christian County Detention Center.
Caratha is also the creator of a social media website called Raised from the Ruins which is enjoyed and frequented by many individuals suffering in silence from substance abuse and domestic violence. Caratha’s personal story of domestic violence resulted in her developing a tagline, “From “Victim to Victorious Survivor.”
Caratha has developed a heart for social justice within at-risk populations and their communities. Over the years, she has witnessed individual and community issues manifest with little to no resolution due to lack of knowledge, resources or advocation. She desires to advocate and be that voice rendering results. Caratha’s mission is to not only represent in all sectors of need, but to encourage and motivate individuals and communities on freedom of choice, self-determination, self-sufficiency and self-preservation.
Born November 16, 1970, Caratha is the youngest of five siblings and the primary caregiver of her octogenarian parents. She has two adult daughters and two grandchildren. Nationally, Caratha is an active member of NAADAC (National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors), NASW (National Association for Social Workers) and a Diamond Life Member of the illustrious sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. Locally, she attends New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where she is the Church Administrator, an executive officer with the Canton Pike Neighborhood Association, commissioner on the Hopkinsville Human Relation Commission and a Kentucky Colonel.
